In a digitalized world, the ability to critically evaluate information is essential. But how well prepared do young people in Germany feel to master challenges such as identifying fake news on social media? And how do they rate their ability to recognize reliable sources on the internet? This special analysis of the 2022 PISA survey examines how young people in Germany rate their digital information literacy compared to the OECD average. It also highlights the central role that schools and teachers play in promoting digital information literacy in the long term. In addition, it analyses how individual characteristics – such as gender or socio-economic status – influence young people's self-assessed digital information literacy. Finally, the brochure offers practical recommendations for action and concrete starting points for specifically strengthening young people's digital information literacy.
